The site went live on March 1, 2001… and we’ve been running a series of special articles this week to mark the occasion. Today, we finish up the series with our reflections and yours, on ten years of CNYRadio.com.
CENTRAL NEW YORK — All this week we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of CNYRadio.com with a series of special reports. Yesterday, several folks who’ve been in local radio for 10+ years explained why they feel consolidation was “the” biggest story from the past decade. Despite the negative side of consolidation, most radio pros are optimistic for what’s ahead. Today, we share their predictions for the next ten years.
CNYRadio.com launched ten years ago — March 1, 2001. To mark the anniversary, we reached out to dozens of local radio personalities and managers. We sent out a series of questions, figuring it would be interesting to see which ones get responses. And one question certainly did — when we asked people to name THE biggest story from radio over the past decade, one common theme was mentioned: consolidation. 
It was 30 years ago today that fans worldwide were saddened by the news of John Lennon’s assassination. The former Beatle was 40 years old. Your editor was a bit too young at the time to remember and understand the news right when it happened. But one CNYRadio.com reader from Auburn shared his memories of how various local radio stations reported on and reacted to the tragedy. 
SYRACUSE – Two CMA nominations announced in September for Clear Channel country station B104.7 (WBBS) did not materialize into awards. Winners in the broadcast categories were announced yesterday, and B104.7 wasn’t on the list.
SYRACUSE — Clear Channel country station B104.7 (WBBS) is nominated for medium market Station of the Year; and morning show co-hosts Tom Owens and Becky Palmer are nominated for medium market Personalities of the Year in the 44th annual Country Music Association Awards.
SYRACUSE — They’ve been nominated time and time again for the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, but still no prize for B104.7 (WBBS) morning co-hosts Tom Owens and Becky Palmer. Meantime, New Country WOLF 105.1 night host Cody Alan is named “Personality of the Year” on the national level.
SYRACUSE — For at least the third year in a row, the B104.7 (WBBS) morning show has been nominated for an Academy of Country Music (ACM) award. And once again, a programmer who used to work in Utica and Watertown gets a nomination for his current station in Albany. |
