SYRACUSE — Even though automation systems in place at virtually every radio station in the region allow for easy and accurate documentation of every single song and advertisement that hits the air, many stations are now being watched by at least one “external” observer around the clock. LAS VEGAS — Citadel Broadcasting, the owner of more than 200 radio stations including four in Syracuse, has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. According to one published report, Citadel Chairman and CEO Farid Suleman said, “we’re glad it’s over and we can get on with running the company.”
SYRACUSE — A little over two years (and four days, to be exact) after it was announced Citadel named Dan Austin as GM of the company’s four-station Syracuse cluster, Austin is on the move once again. This time, he’s headed to market #13: Seattle-Tacoma, Washington.
SYRACUSE — Citadel Broadcasting is looking for a part-time assistant to help with continuity. The job includes a wide variety of duties, 10 hours a week, Monday-Friday, according to a job posting recently listed online. 
LOS ANGELES — Our latest Picture of the Week comes from the “Where Are They Now” file. An observant CNYRadio.com reader tipped us off to the blog of the famous Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of the popular Loveline show — where Pinsky posted a picture from a recent meeting between himself and a former K-Rock (WKLL/WKRH/WKRL) personality. 
SYRACUSE — Matt “Big Smoothie” Jacobs is back on the roster at Citadel rocker 95X (WAQX). You may remember him as the host of “The People’s Show” weekday evenings in the mid 2000s. Jacobs recently rejoined the lineup for weekend duty: he’s on Saturdays 10a-3p and Sundays 7a-1p.
LAS VEGAS — The long-awaited rumors of Citadel Broadcasting’s “pre-arranged bankruptcy” plan are now reality. Several sources are reporting the company — which owns 224 stations, including 4 in Syracuse — officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this morning.
Citadel Broadcasting could be forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection early next year, unless it can form a deal with creditors by mid-January. The owner of more than 200 radio stations — including four in Syracuse — admitted that possibility in a quarterly filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. 
SYRACUSE — It’s one of the few places where you can count on seeing plenty of broadcasters together in one place every year: the Great New York State Fair, which opened yesterday in the Town of Geddes, just outside of Syracuse. Citadel Broadcasting’s first quarter financial report for 2009 looks no better than Regent’s — the company posted a 22.9% decrease in revenue compared to last year, and it declared that it will not be offering quarterly earnings calls or earnings-related press releases at all this year. |
