SYRACUSE — Congratulations are in order for CNY Central Sports Director Niko Tamurian and Syracuse Woman Magazine Managing Editor Farah Jadran. Tamurian “popped the question” on stage during a packed charity fundraiser last week, and Jadran accepted his proposal.
SYRACUSE — It’s not very often that you get the chance to see more than a dozen past and present top names from Syracuse television — from different stations — all together, in the same place. But that happened last weekend, when this group gathered to sign copies of Syracuse Television, the book chronicling the history of its namesake.
SYRACUSE — When the regional Emmy Awards were handed out this past weekend, only one Central New York station took home a trophy. Congratulations to public broadcaster WCNY-TV on taking home the award for best public affairs program for “Insight,” which airs every Friday at 9pm.
SYRACUSE — If you’re looking for jobs in radio or television, WCNY and sister company Joint Master Control Operating Company (JMCO) have a variety of open positions. The public broadcasting operation is hosting a job fair on April 17, at its brand new facilities on West Fayette Street in Syracuse.
SYRACUSE — When WCNY-TV’s TelAuc hits the air in April, it’ll be the very first time the annual fundraiser originates from WCNY’s new facilities on Syracuse’s Near Westside. That’s according to a press release which appeared on WCNY’s website.
SYRACUSE — When you see several TV stations airing the same thing at the same time, you know it’s a big deal. It doesn’t happen often. But last spring, several local stations turned their competition into cooperation. Together, they produced and simulcast “Protecting Our Children,” a one-hour special to raise awareness of child abuse. Almost a year later, the rare joint effort is getting new attention in the form of a New York Emmy Award nomination. And public broadcaster WCNY-TV has four additional nominations of its own.
SYRACUSE — From the “better late than never” file, when CNBC anchor and reporter David Faber visited Syracuse in October, a speaking engagement at the CenterState Business Showcase wasn’t his only public appearance. The award winning journalist, perhaps best known as co-anchor of CNBC’s daily Squawk on the Street, also appeared as a guest on WCNY-TV’s Financial Fitness that same night.
Updated 12/6 at 7:30am with management comment – SYRACUSE — When WCNY announced it had hired Jim Reith earlier this year, the public broadcaster laid out grand plans for the longtime local talk host: podcasts, a blog, social media, television and radio. But tonight, there’s word that the public broadcasting outlet has released Reith from his duties.
SYRACUSE — Season 3 of the award-winning British historical drama Downton Abbey doesn’t premiere here in “The States” until January. But fans can get a sneak peek in December, without flying to England (where the entire season aired earlier this fall and is already available on DVD). WCNY-TV is hosting a preview party in December. It’s free, but seating is limited, and advance registration is required.
SYRACUSE — Experienced sales professional Peter S. Salizniak has been appointed as Director of Business Development and Sales for WCNY, according to a press release issued by the public broadcaster this week. He brings more than a dozen years of sales experience to the new position.
