SYRACUSE — Syracuse native Dusty Rhodes, who started his career at WOLF before graduating from SU and moving to Cincinnati, will be back on local airwaves again this Christmas Eve. The 50th anniversary of the nationally-known “Dusty Rhodes Christmas Show“ will be carried locally on WCNY-HD2.

SYRACUSE — His peers have spoken. Next month, Bill Knowlton from WCNY’s Bluegrass Ramble will receive top honors for his efforts to promote bluegrass music. That honor will come in the form of the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award, to be presented to Knowlton in Nashville on September 29. 
SYRACUSE — If you keep up with the national trades, you’re well aware of the problems facing National Public Radio. Capping off a series of controversial headlines over the past several weeks, NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller “resigned” yesterday. Today, management at WRVO and WCNY say they’re worried that the negative press on top NPR officials could have significant trickle-down effects on their stations and other local public stations nationwide. 
SYRACUSE — Public broadcaster WCNY says tickets are still available for “The Party: WCNY’s New Year Celebration,” happening at the Oncenter Ballroom in Syracuse. Admission includes food, an open bar and a midnight champagne toast. For those who prefer a quieter New Year’s Eve at home, WCNY will televise the event live.
SYRACUSE — Local PBS affiliate WCNY appears on the list of stations that have signed up to carry the next incarnation of Roger Ebert’s movie review program. It’s titled Roger Ebert presents At the Movies and it’s set to debut next month. 
UTICA-ROME — Two of the three men who fell from a Smith Hill broadcast tower on Monday have been released from the hospital… and one of the workers has already returned to climb the tower again.
SYRACUSE — Local PBS affiliate WCNY-TV has completed a locally-produced documentary that details work scientists and military personnel are performing in Greeland to study climate change. The program, Artic Air: A Greenlandic Journey with the 109th, will debut on Monday, November 8. 
UTICA-ROME — One addition to our earlier coverage of the mishap on the tower at WKTV on Smith Hill — another radio station, 92.7 The Drive (WXUR) was taken off the air for a few hours.
Updated 10/26 at 8:00am – UTICA-ROME — NBC affiliate WKTV says three workers who fell from a transmission tower outside the station’s Smith Hill studios this morning are expected to be okay. “None of the injuries are considered to be life threatening,” the station reported on its website, and one of the three workers has already been released from the hospital.
SYRACUSE — Popular announcer Dusty Rhodes will be back on the Syracuse airwaves in May, hosting a four-part series entitled Syracuse Radio in the Fifties on WCNY-HD2. Installments of the program are scheduled to air on Sunday afternoons, starting May 2. |
