POTW: Congratulations, Bob Ausfeld (2003)

ALBANY — Not many people have the honor of saying they were the General Manager of two prominent radio stations before turning 30, especially in a top-75 market.  But Robert Ausfeld did just that, and after nearly four decades in radio, he’s set to retire at month’s end.  Although Ausfeld was based in Albany, he oversaw one cluster of Utica-Rome stations for part of his career. POTW: Buckets Blakes Balances Basketballs with Big Frog’s Polly Wogg (2011)

UTICA/ROME — Yes, too much time was invested in the title for our latest Picture of the Week.  She’s known for spinning country tunes… but earlier this week, Big Frog 104 (WFRG) morning co-host Polly Wogg got a lesson in spinning basketballs, from Buckets Blakes of the Harlem Globetrotters. POTW: Early Days of WIBX (c. 1926)

UTICA/ROME — News/talker WIBX 950 turns 85 years old on Sunday.  We hadn’t realized the big milestone was approaching until CNYRadio.com reader Jerry Reed sent in a picture from the very early days of the station — along with a history of the station he compiled in 1991.  So we have not only a picture, but also a story to share this week! Slicing and Dicing Utica-Rome Ratings

Slicing and Dicing Utica-Rome Ratings

UTICA-ROME — Even though Arbitron didn’t release its Spring 2010 ratings estimates to the general public (the market’s actually been embargoed since the Fall 2008 book), Arbitron’s Fair Use policy says media can report on certain ratings data — as long as the data is provided by subscribers.  That’s just what happened, so for the first time in over a year, we have a snapshot of the radio battle in the Mohawk Valley.
