ITHACA/CORTLAND — At first, it was just Clear Channel’s 800 stations. Then they added 570 more stations owned by Cumulus. A handful of religious stations were mixed in. And now, Ithaca College’s WICB has the distinction of being among the first college stations streaming on Clear Channel’s iHeartRadio platform.

ITHACA — Two college radio stations in Ithaca will be among hundreds nationwide participating in “College Radio Day” on Tuesday. The plans include airing a special feature program about college radio. 
ITHACA — This week, we’re heading more than half a century back in time, for another look into the extensive collection of longtime Ithaca broadcaster Rudy Paolangeli. Although Rudy may be best known for his long-standing connections with WHCU, this photo goes back even further. 
ITHACA — While some sources (like Wikipedia) note that college radio “became commonplace in the 1960s,” the folks at Ithaca College have the distinction of being ahead of the curve. Their campus radio station, WICB, has a history dating back to the late 1940s. A photo from the Ithaca College Library’s website shows how the studio looked in 1958.
ITHACA — Ithaca College’s WICB won the very first “College Radio Woodie” at the mtvU Woodie Awards in 2008, and they’re hoping to pull it off again this year. WICB and three other local college stations made it into the top 25, but WICB is the lone local nominee to make it into the final round of ten. WICB’s fate will be determined by online voting. 
ITHACA/CORTLAND — While it certainly wasn’t the biggest or baddest snowstorm ever (we spotted one report hyping it as a “snow hurricane”), yesterday’s snowstorm was the worst we’ve had so far this season. We challenged local radio folk to break out their cameras and show us how they’re dealing with the snow.
ITHACA — Fans of Jimmy Fallon are in for a special treat Monday morning… the comedian and late night TV talk show host will be part of the Valentine’s Day Special on “Mikey Mike’s Monday Morning Madness” this coming Monday on Ithaca College’s WICB (91.7 FM).
ITHACA — To use a long-standing radio cliché, call it a WICB “doubleshot,” both in terms of CNYRadio.com articles, and in terms of being named the best college radio station in the country.
ITHACA — At a time of the year when most student-run college stations are running on a skeleton crew and/or automation, students at Ithaca College’s WICB are working as hard as ever, helping to raise record-breaking amounts of money for local charity. 
ITHACA – They did it! Ithaca College’s WICB has won mtvU’s inaugural “Woodie” award for “Best College Radio Station.” Through online voting, WICB beat out three other finalists for the award. |
