SYRACUSE — Tickets go on sale this Saturday for Krockathon 18, which will be held on July 27 at the New York State Fairgrounds. Chevelle, Sevendust and All That Remains are just three of the 11 bands who were announced by K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) today, and the stations promise “more” to be announced prior to the concert date.
SYRACUSE — Rock fans, get ready to head north. K-Rock’s Dysfunctional Family BBQ moves to the Oswego Speedway for its 7th year. In addition to that new location, the trio of modern rock stations covering the Syracuse and Utica-Rome markets announced a lineup of six bands for the May 18 concert. Tickets go on-sale this Saturday.
SYRACUSE — The show that prefers to call itself “The Show” wasn’t allowed to be “The Show” for the past 90 days. But today, the expiration of a legal injunction allowed the morning crew at K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) to regain its identity as “The Show.”
SYRACUSE — Galaxy Communications has started the search for someone to serve as the assistant program director and promotions coordinator for its three K-Rock stations. That’s the word according to a want-ad which appeared on one of the national radio industry trade sites today.
SYRACUSE — Consolidation is always a controversial topic among broadcasters. Galaxy CEO and President Ed Levine garnered plenty of praise this week when he criticized the overuse of the cost-cutting strategy, in an interview with Radio Ink, a national radio trade magazine. In the article, he said consolidation is sending radio “backwards,” as many owners overlook the potential rewards of localizing their stations.
SYRACUSE — As Mimi Griswold prepares to retire after 20 years with Galaxy Communications — starting as the program director for K-Rock in 1992, and serving as VP of Programming for the entire company since 1998 — the programmer received a very special honor today. Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney issued a proclamation declaring today to be “Mimi Griswold Day” throughout Onondaga County.
SYRACUSE — K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH) has a new TV spot to promote its morning team, but it seems that the ad will be getting limited exposure. The three stations of CNY Central — NBC3 (WSTM), CBS5 (WTVH) and CW6 (WSTQ-LP) — have turned down the ad, calling it “inappropriate.” Inside the story: Watch the ad.
SYRACUSE — First, two guys left their morning show at Cumulus Media’s 95X (WAQX) and went to work across town at Galaxy’s KROCK (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL). Next, Cumulus got upset and took the two guys to court. Twice. Although the two guys were banned from using phrases they coined at 95X, neither court blocked them from working at KROCK. And now, Galaxy’s returning fire at Cumulus, by way of a somewhat taunting display ad that’s appearing on the area’s busiest local news website.
ROCHESTER — We didn’t think we’d be using our “Cumulus vs. The Show” graphic again until later in the month, but according to Galaxy Communications, the legal team at Cumulus Media has made a second attempt to force Hunter Scott and Josh Grosvent off-the-air at Galaxy’s KROCK. The pair has been doing mornings at KROCK for two weeks now, starting just three days after quitting the same shift at Cumulus-owned 95X (WAQX).
Updated 6:00pm – SYRACUSE — Josh Grosvent and Hunter Scott will be allowed to continue hosting mornings for KROCK stations in the Syracuse (WKRL/WKRH) and Utica-Rome (WKLL) markets. But a state judge says the pair cannot refer to their program as “The Show” anymore. The judge also set forth some other conditions, after discussing the case with lawyers representing KROCK parent Galaxy Communications and Cumulus Media, the owner of the pair’s former station, 95X (WAQX).
