UTICA-ROME — Sixty-six years ago today, on May 2, 1947, federal regulators gave WIBX the green light to move to its current home at 950AM. Thanks to a former WIBX broadcaster, we’re pleased to share an aircheck of the switch from 1230AM to 950AM.
UTICA-ROME — Although she started at Lite 98.7 (WLZW) exactly 20 years ago today, midday host Trudy announced she’s celebrating 15 years with the adult contemporary station today. Many broadcasters joke that they got into broadcasting so they wouldn’t have to do math, but Trudy says there’s a good reason for the numbers not matching up.
UTICA-ROME — Earlier this week, we were surprised by the absence of ratings data for Townsquare Media’s four radio stations in the latest update from Arbitron. But we’ve since heard that Townsquare still subscribes to “the book” in this market. We checked, and it appears Arbitron has updated the “topline” data to include the cluster, which includes perennial market leader Big Frog 104 (WFRG).
UTICA-ROME — About two months ago, we offered our first “Video of the Week,” as staffers at Townsquare Media’s Utica-Rome cluster danced and lip-synced to the popular Psy song “Gangnam Style.” This week, the gang from Big Frog 104 (WFRG), Oldiez 96.1 (WODZ), Lite 98.7 (WLZW) and news/talker 950 WIBX are back at it again, with a Utica-centric take on the classic “Twelve Days of Christmas.”
UTICA-ROME — Townsquare Media’s Lite 98.7 (WLZW) is the newest addition to the list of Central New York radio stations going all-Christmas. WLZW Brand Manager Eric Meier tells CNYRadio.com the adult contemporary station made the switch this morning. And the Syracuse-based Mars Hill Radio Network will soon begin mixing holiday hits in with its religious programming.
SYRACUSE — There are now two Syracuse radio stations offering holiday hits around the clock. Clear Channel adult contemporary station Y94 (WYYY) made the switch during morning drive today.
SYRACUSE — With the last part of October (before the hurricane, of course) bringing us a few mild days with temperatures in the mid 70s, it’s easy to forget winter is just around the corner. But, like clockwork, the arrival of November once again means the arrival of wall-to-wall Christmas music on at least one local radio station.
UTICA-ROME — You probably won’t hear Psy’s “Gangnam Style” on any of Townsquare Media’s Utica-Rome stations (it would be way out-of-format). But that doesn’t keep the staff from enjoying the breakout hit — and mimicing the South Korean singer’s trademark moves off-the-air.
SYRACUSE — Congratulations to a pair of former Syracuse radio broadcasters, who are being promoted in their current jobs. Jeanne Ashley has a promotion in Miami, and Kevin Keefe is getting ready to step-up his managerial duties in the North Country.
UTICA-ROME — Several CNYRadio.com readers tell us Mary Jo Beach was relieved of her duties as General Manager and Vice President of Townsquare Media’s four station cluster today. Multiple sources tell us the new GM will be Karen Carey, who brings GM experience from running Clear Channel’s Rochester cluster. Her first day of work at Townsquare will reportedly be tomorrow.
