Chester Whiteside dies at 82

MONTROSE, AL — Chester Whiteside certainly made his mark in Syracuse.  Whiteside was the city’s first black disc jockey, working at 570 WSYR and 1260 WNDR during the 1960s, its first black television commentator, and Syracuse’s first black firefighter. ‘Dandy Dan’ Leonard dies in California

Dan Leonard brought rock and rock to Syracuse radio and went on to become one of the market’s legendary jocks. Leonard, who spent 27 years on the air in central New York starting in 1954 at WNDR, died Feb. 11 from cancer in California at the age of 75. [More »]
