SYRACUSE — There will be a new radio home for minor league baseball’s Syracuse Chiefs this season: The Score 1260 (WSKO). The news was just announced this afternoon during On the Block with Brent Axe. Jason Benetti, who called the games last year, will return for his second season behind the mic.

SYRACUSE — A number of changes first announced in December finally took place today. ESPN Radio has changed its Syracuse affiliation over from Citadel’s WSKO (formerly WNSS) 1260 over to a four-station simulcast including two AMs and two FM translators owned by Galaxy.
SYRACUSE — New call letters are in effect today for Citadel’s AM 1260. According to Operations Manager Tom Mitchell, the former WNSS is now officially identified as WSKO. The new calls fit in with the station’s new branding, as “The Score 1260.”
SYRACUSE — Big news from the Citadel camp on James Street this afternoon: the station confirms WNSS will remain a sports-talker branded as “The Score 1260″ as of March 5th. Even more of a surprise: Lite Rock 105.9 will be flipped to an FM talk format, branded as “105.9 The Big Talker.”

SYRACUSE — Looks like ESPN Radio 1260 (WNSS) will be branded as “The Score 1260″ after it loses its ESPN affiliation later next week. The new name was revealed by a website that keeps a close eye out for new radio station website domain registrations. They’ve also uncovered a possible format flip for another station in the cluster. 
SYRACUSE — Online sports columnist and radio talk show host Brent Axe will be getting some national TV time this coming weekend, covering the historical outdoor AHL game at the State Fairgrounds. 
SYRACUSE — Less than a year after he was reinstated to morning drive — following a two-year absence in the market — syndicated talker Don Imus will once again be dropped from the lineup at WHEN. 
Updated 1/27 at 4:00pm -SYRACUSE — It appears that both FM translators that will soon be part of Galaxy Communications’ ESPN Radio affiliation are ready for the change, more than a month in advance. The translator at 97.7FM (W249BC/Mattydale) has switched from simulcasting K-Rock (WKRL) to simulcasting future ESPN Radio anchor WTLA (1200).
SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME — The New ESPN Radio 97.7 and 100.1 FM haven’t even launched yet, but owner Galaxy Communications is announcing some big additions to their programming lineups: namely, coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament this spring and live coverage of New York Giants games next season. 
LAS VEGAS — The long-awaited rumors of Citadel Broadcasting’s “pre-arranged bankruptcy” plan are now reality. Several sources are reporting the company — which owns 224 stations, including 4 in Syracuse — officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this morning. |
