SYRACUSE — Almost a year since “Yo! Sunny Joe” Allen exited Foxfur’s MOViN 100.3/96.5 (WMVN), he’s back on the air again. According to AllAccess, he just started this week doing afternoons for Saga-owned WKNE, a top-40 station in Keene, New Hampshire. SYRACUSE — Many garage sale shoppers say they love to look because you never know what you’re going to find. Among the piles of used clothing and old books, sharp-eyed shoppers occasionally hit the jackpot. That’s just what CNYRadio.com reader Terrance Neidl did while browsing a garage sale in Liverpool earlier this month. 
DETROIT — After 45 years on the air in the Motor City, Buffalo native and SU graduate Dick Purtan is getting ready to call it a career. Purtan — who used some other names on-air in Syracuse — announced his retirement plans on his morning radio show this week. Updated 2/14 with comment from Jay Fishman. 
SYRACUSE — A few months after returning to a prior religious format, WVOA 105.1 has joined some of its sister stations in carrying the syndicated Radio Disney format. This brings Radio Disney back to the FM dial in Syracuse for the first time since it was replaced by the MOViN format (WOLF-FM/WWLF-FM) a few years ago. PITTSFIELD, MA — Former Utica and Syracuse jock Nick Caplan has landed on his feet again… with a morning gig in western Massachusetts. And his boss is a fellow former Utica radio programmer. 
SYRACUSE - There’s a very familiar name coming to Classic Hits 92.1 WSEN. The man famous for hosting “American Bandstand” and decades of New Years’ Eve countdowns is joining the station’s weekend schedule. An observant CNYRadio.com reader points out Bob McMahon, formerly of stations in Utica and Syracuse, has been let go from WBZ in Boston. 
Tim Huppmann, known to listeners of TK99, WSEN, WOLF and other stations as “Rick Ryder,” died on Monday, according to an obituary published in the Syracuse Post-Standard earlier this week. Huppmann, who also served for many years working his way up the ranks to Chief of Rescue and Firefighting at Hancock Airport, was 65 years old. Thanks to an observant CNYRadio.com reader for pointing this out — XM Radio’s “Sonic Sound Salutes” show will spend five hours paying tribute to WOLF in its days as a Top 40 station. The five-hour show begins this afternoon (Friday) at 4:00, on XM’s “60s” channel. AUBURN, NY — Heather Lardeo, a 12-year-old Auburn resident, is off to Anaheim, California this weekend to compete with seven other contestants in a national singing competition sponsored by Radio Disney. |
