SYRACUSE — He worked as an on-air personality, a programmer, and even a station owner. We regret to pass along the news that Don DeRosa lost his battle to cancer yesterday. Former colleague Jeff Moulton tells us DeRosa passed at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon — while friends and former colleagues gathered in Syracuse for a benefit to help cover DeRosa’s medical bills. Updated 6/21 with calling hours and funeral information. 
While researching histories for the CNYRadio.com Station Wiki, we stumbled upon a little treasure… an entire gallery of photos posted by Mike Doughney, a former co-owner of Fulton’s WOSC 1300 (today WAMF). The former WOSC 1300 AM, which has been WZZZ for the past fifteen years, is changing its call letters to WAMF. The Fulton station was bought by Don DeRosa earlier this month. FULTON — Fulton’s WZZZ 1300 AM has been bought for $300,000 by a former manager of the station. Don DeRosa was general manager of the 1,000 watt AM, at the time known as WOSC, along with Magic 104.7, WKFM in the early 80′s.
