Roser to Buy WRCK/Utica for $425,000

UTICA-ROME — Locally-owned Roser Communications Network is poised to purchase radio station WRCK from the California-based Educational Media Foundation.  The sale, with its $425,000 price tag, was “accepted for filing” by the FCC today, as first reported this morning by AllAccess.com.  No word yet on what Roser plans to do with WRCK, but one thing’s for certain — we won’t be seeing a revival of the “Rock 107″ branding Uticans remember from WRCK prior to 2007. Larry Oyer, aka “Big Larry Williams,” Dies

Larry OyerALBANY — He worked for many years in the Utica/Rome market, mostly at WRCK and WTLB.  Larry Oyer, who went by the name “Big Larry Williams” on the air, has died at the age of 57, following a brief illness.  Calling hours and a funeral are set to take place today near Albany, but a memorial service closer to Utica has been scheduled for next weekend. Former Clear Channel Utica OM Stew Schantz Dies

UTICA-ROME — Stew Schantz, who once served as Operations Manager of Clear Channel’s former Utica-Rome cluster, has passed away at the age of 53.  He most recently was working as OM and afternoon driver at WUPE in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.  Anonymous sources say Schantz died Friday morning, of complications following a heart attack Thursday night. Route 81 Radio Foreclosure Sale
