UTICA/ROME — The locally-owned Roser Communications Network is one big step closer to picking up another radio station. The FCC announced today that it has approved Roser’s plan to buy WRCK 100.7 from Educational Media Foundation. The $425,000 deal was first revealed in November. [More »]

UTICA-ROME — Locally-owned Roser Communications Network is poised to purchase radio station WRCK from the California-based Educational Media Foundation. The sale, with its $425,000 price tag, was “accepted for filing” by the FCC today, as first reported this morning by AllAccess.com. No word yet on what Roser plans to do with WRCK, but one thing’s for certain — we won’t be seeing a revival of the “Rock 107″ branding Uticans remember from WRCK prior to 2007. [More »]

ALBANY — He worked for many years in the Utica/Rome market, mostly at WRCK and WTLB. Larry Oyer, who went by the name “Big Larry Williams” on the air, has died at the age of 57, following a brief illness. Calling hours and a funeral are set to take place today near Albany, but a memorial service closer to Utica has been scheduled for next weekend. [More »]

UTICA-ROME — Stew Schantz, who once served as Operations Manager of Clear Channel’s former Utica-Rome cluster, has passed away at the age of 53. He most recently was working as OM and afternoon driver at WUPE in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Anonymous sources say Schantz died Friday morning, of complications following a heart attack Thursday night. Updated 6/14 with official obituary/arrangements. [More »]

UTICA/ROME — The station located at 107.3 on the FM dial in the Utica-Rome market has certainly run the gamut of formats. Today, it carries satellite-driven religious music. Before that, WRCK’s longest-running brand was “Rock 107.” Even earlier, the station ran country as WTLB-FM, but before any of that… there was WZOW-FM. [More »]

The Pennsylvania-based company that owned Galaxy’s Utica-Rome cluster for a short time in 2004, is now history. “Route 81 Radio” has been taken over by one of it’s own primary investors following a foreclosure sale, reports Scott Fybush in this week’s NorthEast Radio Watch.
