Updated 1/4 – BUFFALO — Multiple news media outlets in western New York’s largest city are reporting Cumulus Media’s Buffalo cluster has terminated its 13-year deal to broadcast and syndicate Buffalo Bills games. That report has been creating some question about radio coverage in Syracuse and Utica when the Bills return to the field for the 2012 NFL season later this year. [More »]

SAN ANTONIO, TX — It’s an unprecedented deal between two of the biggest companies in radio: Cumulus Media is joining iHeartRadio, the platform owned by Clear Channel which already provides mobile streaming of more than 800 Clear Channel stations. By adding the 570 stations owned by Cumulus, iHeartRadio will offer roughly 1400 stations — many direct competitors with each other — through one single application. [More »]

Updated 12/1 – SYRACUSE — While it’s not uncommon to see “Syracuse University” mentioned by national networks like ESPN, those mentions had usually been for game highlights and other routine sports coverage typically afforded Division I schools. That all changed nearly two weeks ago, when ESPN and other networks converged on Syracuse to cover developments in the Bernie Fine case. SYRACUSE — For the second time in a single season, Perry Noun’s golf talk show, Tee Time with the Pronoun, is changing stations again. After starting the 2011 season on ESPN Radio 97.7/100.7 (WTLA/WSGO/W249BC/W261AC), the Saturday morning program will be cut in half and moved back to the AM dial, to Cumulus Media’s The Score 1260 (WSKO). ATLANTA — It’s been a long time in the works, and now it’s official: the merger of Citadel Broadcasting and Cumulus Media is complete. Cumulus made the announcement this morning. It’s basically more of a takeover, as Citadel is technically a “wholly-owned subsidiary” of Cumulus. The deal involves four Syracuse market radio stations. [More »]

ATLANTA — The merger between Cumulus and Citadel is all but complete. Citadel stockholders and the FCC approved the merger today, following the Department of Justice’s early termination of an anti-trust “waiting period” on Tuesday. All that’s left is for the official closing of the deal — and that’s expected to happen tomorrow. Citadel owns four Syracuse radio stations. The merged company will keep the Cumulus name. [More »]

CLEVELAND — Former disc jockey Peter C. Cavanaugh — whose long and successful radio career started at Syracuse’s WNDR in the 1950s — is featured in a new exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. UTICA/ROME — Until now, the Buffalo Bills Radio Network has had a gap in coverage between Syracuse and Albany. That gap will be at least partially filled this season as Roser Communications Network’s 95.5FM (WUTQ/WADR/W238CA) becomes the network’s newest affiliate. [More »]
