SYRACUSE — For at least the second year in a row, the Town of Cicero’s Community Festival Parade had a local broadcaster leading the way. NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) Chief Meteorologist Dave Longley, a resident of the town, served as the Grand Marshal for this year’s parade.
SYRACUSE — Even though our latest Picture of the Week was taken just a little under two years ago, it’s already got some upstate New York broadcast history in there. It’s a shot of the regional master control facility inside of NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV). Take a close look at the photo, and see if you can spot why it’s historic. If not, we’ll explain.
SYRACUSE — Longtime NewsChannel 2 (WKTV) anchor Bill Worden, who retired last November after 35 years with the Utica NBC affiliate, received the Syracuse Press Club’s Career Achievement Award this past weekend. Thanks to one of his former co-workers, we’ve got a few photos to share.
Updated 5/10/13 – SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Press Club reports three people are leaving local television newsrooms for new jobs. Two will be moving out-of-state for TV news positions in larger markets, while another will remain local, with a new job outside of broadcasting.
SYRACUSE — It’s not very often that you get the chance to see more than a dozen past and present top names from Syracuse television — from different stations — all together, in the same place. But that happened last weekend, when this group gathered to sign copies of Syracuse Television, the book chronicling the history of its namesake.
SYRACUSE — This summer, reporter Leigh Isaacson will celebrate her two-year anniversary at NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) by leaving the ABC affiliate. Last night, Isaacson announced she has a new job lined-up at the Fox affiliate in New Orleans, Louisiana.
SYRACUSE — NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Tanja Babich said she’s “living the dream,” speaking at the podium during a naturalization ceremony in Syracuse today. Babich was there because she was one of 38 people to become U.S. citizens during the ceremony.
SYRACUSE — Average viewers might not have ever heard of Bill Eadie, but he had plenty of notable achievements during his 34-year career in Syracuse television. We’re sorry to share the news that Eadie passed away on Thursday at the age of 79.
Updated 4/16 – CENTRAL NEW YORK — In the hours after the Boston Marathon bombings, we’re learning how some Central New York broadcasters who were in Boston today are faring. Thankfully, all of the reports are positive.
SYRACUSE — Did you hug a news anchor yesterday? If not, you may have to wait until “National Hug a News Anchor Day” comes around again next year. A couple of local stations observed the “holiday” and shared video online.
