SYRACUSE — Two weeks after Bob Lonsberry took over afternoons at FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR, his show has been extended by an extra hour. The Rochester-based host still takes to the airwaves at 3pm, but as of today, his show runs until 6pm rather than 5pm. [More »]

SYRACUSE — Six years ago today, friends, family and colleagues gathered for the funeral of broadcast journalist Bill Leaf. And this morning, Leaf’s family has learned Bill’s killer, Matthew Benedict, has been denied parole by state officials. The decision means Benedict — who could have been released as early as next month — will remain behind bars for at least two more years. [More »]

SYRACUSE — A handful of former Clear Channel Syracuse employees (mostly from WSYR radio) gathered for an impromptu “reunion” on New Year’s Eve. We’ll borrow a phrase commonly used by one of the attendees to say the gathering took place at “an undisclosed location” within Onondaga County. [More »]

PITTSBURGH — Former WSYR radio news anchor/reporter Matt DelSignore is moving to Washington, D.C., where he’ll report for the same all-news startup where current WSYR news director Chris Barnes recently announced he’s headed. CBS-owned WNEW 99.1 is set to launch its 24/7 news operation on January 19th. [More »]

SYRACUSE — There will be a new local talk show on FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR starting next Monday. Morning host Joe Galuski announced on-air the 3-5pm timeslot will be filled by Bob Lonsberry, a familiar name in the Rochester market, where he’s been doing radio for more than 25 years. The addition of Lonsberry also means additional schedule changes through the evening hours.

PD Jason Furst tells CNYRadio.com that current ND Chris Barnes is leaving on “good terms.” He has accepted a new job in the nation’s capital. SYRACUSE — Longtime NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Rod Wood and former longtime WSYR radio talk show host Jim Reith were among many local and national broadcasters to receive write-in votes in Onondaga County this past Election Day. Other names to receive votes include TK99 morning co-host Glenn “Gomez” Adams, and national TV stars like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. [More »]

SAN ANTONIO, TX — It’s an unprecedented deal between two of the biggest companies in radio: Cumulus Media is joining iHeartRadio, the platform owned by Clear Channel which already provides mobile streaming of more than 800 Clear Channel stations. By adding the 570 stations owned by Cumulus, iHeartRadio will offer roughly 1400 stations — many direct competitors with each other — through one single application. [More »]

SYRACUSE — Friends and family of former WSYR radio reporter Bill Leaf will have to wait at least another month before they learn whether the drunk driver who killed Leaf in 2006 will be paroled in February 2012. This is the second time Matthew Benedict’s initial parole hearing has been postponed. [More »]
