CINCINNATI — Former WSYR570 sports director and WTVH-5 sportscaster Dan Hoard has been tapped by the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals for radio play-by-play duties starting with the team’s preseason games this summer. He’ll be joining fellow SU grad Dave Lapham, who will be entering his 26th season providing color commentary. 
SYRACUSE — It’s “two for one” Picture of the Week today — we’re taking a flashback field trip and plugging a good cause at the same time. This, after your editor recently heard for the first time about one local TV news anchor’s efforts to help pets in times of medical need. 
SYRACUSE — Radio versus TV… who will win? You can see for yourself tonight when local broadcasting personalities from CNYCentral (WSTM/WTVH) television take on colleagues from Galaxy Communications radio. They’ll be playing basketball to raise money for Golisano Children’s Hospital and for a local school teacher who’s battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. 
NEW YORK CITY — Syracuse native David Muir, who worked for five years at WTVH, has been named the sole anchor for the weekend editions of ABC’s World News. He had been previously anchoring on Sundays. In addition to picking up Saturdays, ABC is renaming the newscasts World News with David Muir. 
SYRACUSE — Anyone who works inside TV knows “enhanced widescreen” isn’t the same thing as true high-definition, but the folks at CNY Central (the trio comprised of WSTM, WTVH and WSTQ-LP) are still hoping their new “enhanced widescreen” newscasts, debuting today, will turn some heads. Updated 12/14. NEW YORK CITY — Local fans of former WSTM anchor/reporter Jeff Glor will have more chances to see him on TV starting in 2011. The current Saturday anchor of the CBS Evening News will take over the news desk at the CBS Early Show.
SYRACUSE — One of the biggest syndicated lineup changes in Syracuse TV already took place last month, when Channel 5 (WTVH-DT) managed to snatch Live! with Regis and Kelly away from Channel 9 (WSYR-DT). But a few more changes are set to take place, specifically during the 7pm “access hour.”

Those are usually the most important ratings or sweeps periods of the year. But in Syracuse, you can cross 12 more days off the calendar: The Great New York State Fair. In this “Mega Picture of the Week” we have not one, not ten, but 16 pictures from this year’s fair. SYRACUSE — The money CBS affiliate WTVH-TV saved by shutting down its newsroom and moving in with channel 3 has apparently been piling up — enough for Channel 5 to take over the market’s affiliation contract for Live! With Regis and Kelly away from longtime affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV). |
