SYRACUSE — A family name familiar to longtime Syracuse residents is back on the air. While Sunny 102 (WZUN) morning meteorologist Mike Ellis is out for the next 5 weeks, Jamie DeLine will be filling in. The recent NYU graduate is the daughter of the late Dick DeLine, and grand-daughter of Jim DeLine, who was on both radio and TV in Syracuse, decades ago.
SYRACUSE — Our latest Picture of the Week headline has nothing to do with the 2:02 commercial breaks Chuck Woolery used to introduce during TV’s Love Connection back in the 80s. Rather, we’ve got two local morning radio co-hosts being photographed at two different recent events… and the photos came to us from two different contributors.
SYRACUSE — For the second time in a week, Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) morning man “Big Mike” Fiss has had the pleasure of debuting a new twist on a classic hit. This time, he has teamed up with Dennis Brogan — or as he’s more popularly known among fans — The Dome Ranger. In case you haven’t heard the new song on Sunny 102, we’ve got the audio here as well.
SYRACUSE — It’s a busy week at Classic Hits Sunny 102.1 (WZUN). The Galaxy-owned station is the newest affiliate of syndicated host John Tesh, airing seven nights a week. And the station becomes at least the third in the market to roll out its own “Orange version” of a popular song, to help cheer on the SU men’s basketball team as they make their way through the NCAA tournament.
SYRACUSE — “Big Mike” Fiss has a new but familiar co-host on the morning show at Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) this week. ”After doing a great job for four years,” Fiss says Melissa Midgley “decided to leave” the station. Fiss says WZUN weekend personality Cindy Humble is now serving as co-host.
SYRACUSE — There aren’t many traditions in local broadcasting that have lasted for 31 years, but next Wednesday, longtime local radio morning man “Big Mike” Fiss will host his 31st annual live Christmas broadcast. Big Mike’s entire morning show will feature live vocal performances from nearly 20 community groups including school choruses and church choirs.
SYRACUSE — As Mimi Griswold prepares to retire after 20 years with Galaxy Communications — starting as the program director for K-Rock in 1992, and serving as VP of Programming for the entire company since 1998 — the programmer received a very special honor today. Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney issued a proclamation declaring today to be “Mimi Griswold Day” throughout Onondaga County.
SYRACUSE — There are now two Syracuse radio stations offering holiday hits around the clock. Clear Channel adult contemporary station Y94 (WYYY) made the switch during morning drive today.
SYRACUSE — For about 180 weekdays every year, Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) co-host Melissa Midgley goes directly from the studio to her “day job,” teaching second grade at Solvay Elementary School. But when she walks out of Sunny’s Armory Square studios this Monday, she’ll be heading east instead of west — to log some on-camera time at NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV).
Updated 9:45pm to add link to Y94 poll – SYRACUSE — Less than a week after Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) made its annual switch to wall-to-wall Christmas music on November 1st, Utica-Rome sister station Mix 102.5 (WUMX) made the switch today, rebranding itself as “ChrisMix 102.5.” And in Syracuse, Clear Channel’s Y94 (WYYY) is giving listeners the chance to decide when it will hop on the holiday cheer bandwagon.
