WHCU Seeks New Assistant News Director

August 15, 2008 by CNYRadio.com

After a slow stretch, this is turning out to be a pretty busy Friday here at CNYRadio.com.  Dave Vieser from WHCU in Ithaca tells us the Ithaca news/talker has an immediate opening for an Assistant News Director.  Here's the job posting, exactly as Dave sent it:

News/Talk 870 WHCU in Ithaca is looking for an Assistant News Director.  Greg Fry recently left the station to join WGY in Schenectady; with his move to the Capital Region; the Cayuga Radio Group needs an experienced news anchor/reporter to move into the “second chair” in the newsroom.  The AND typically works a 10-6 PM shift, anchoring newscasts on all of the 5 group stations, helps craft assignments, work on future planning, and guide other anchors and reporters on stories and news selection.   The Assistant News Director will also substitute for the News Director in his absence.  There are plenty of opportunities for advancement with Saga Communications.  This full-time position includes great benefits, and a very friendly working environment in a beautiful part of upstate New York.  We are looking for someone with newsroom experience; a bonus if they have worked in New York State; a great sense of what is news and what is not; and a person who enjoys the challenge of managing, training, and supervising.    Candidates should rush resumes, on-air audio and writing samples to gdunn@cyradiogroup.com or News Director 1751 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca NY 14850.
