WSYR Seeks News Director, Chris Barnes to D.C.

December 29, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

Updated 12/30 -- SYRACUSE -- FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR is on the hunt for a new news director / morning drive news anchor.  PD Jason Furst tells CNYRadio.com that current ND Chris Barnes is leaving on "good terms."  He has accepted a new job in the nation's capital.  We have the details on that, along with Furst's official job posting to replace Barnes, and for some other opportunities under his watch.

Barnes Leaving for a "W-NEW" Opportunity

Added 12/30 - Congratulations to Chris Barnes, who has accepted a position with the soon-t0-launch all-news 99.1 WNEW-FM in Washington, DC.  He'll be anchoring weekdays 2-5am at the CBS-owned station, followed by a few hours of reporting.

Barnes, who joined WSYR in September 2010, tells CNYRadio.com moving to Maryland will put him closer to "where all my loved ones are."  About his time with WSYR, he says, "the Clear Channel Syracuse crew was great to work for. We all had to roll with some corporate punches, but from the work of Joel Delmonico down it remains a very positive and exciting place to do radio."
