Cora Thomas receives King award

Syracuse University recently honored five local individuals for "exemplifying the spirit, life, and teachings" of Martin Luther King Jr. Included in the group of this year's recipients of Unsung Hero and Heroine Awards is Cora Thomas, host of Saturday Morning Gospel on WSIV AM 1540 and Sunday Morning Gospel on WAER FM 88.

Thomas is also WAER's office manager and is involved in many community activities including choir director at the Second Olivet Baptist Church and committee member for the National Council of Negro Women.

The awards were handed out on January 19 at S.U.'s 2002 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration held at the Carrier Dome.
