FCC: Clear Channel can buy Ackerley

May 30, 2002 by Scott Jameson

The Federal Communications Commission has approved Clear Channel Communications' bid to buy the Ackerley Group's roster of radio and television stations. It will take some doing though; Clear Channel must sell four radio stations in the Utica-Rome market, where the $800 million deal gives it ten radio stations, and either two radio stations or one TV station in Binghamton, NY. The company must also divest one radio or TV station each in Syracuse, Rochester, and Santa Maria, CA.

Clear Channel Communications owns 12 radio stations in Central New York.
