CNY Radio celebrates its first year online

CNYRadio.com, the Internet's most comprehensivesource for news relating to the Syracuse and Utica-Rome radio markets,is celebrating its one-year anniversary. Launched on July 1, 2001, withthe goal of consolidating information from more than 65 radio industryand station online resources, CNYRadio.com has grown steadily inpopularity since its debut and currently receives in excess of 16,000page views from more than 5,000 visits each month.By offering a full listing of schedules, air personality profiles,ratings, and contact information for more than 50 radio stations in theCentral New York area, as well as over 350 news stories posted withinthe past year, radio industry professionals and the general public havecome to rely on CNYRadio.com's timely, comprehensive coverage.

According to founder and site manager, Scott Jameson, "The response hasbeen tremendous. It's more than we could have hoped for when we startedputting the pieces of the puzzle together last spring." He credits muchof the site's success to the cooperation and input of the Central NewYork radio community. "Without the help of station program directorsand on-air staff, CNYRadio.com would not be as full-featured as it is. Plus they keep us in line and let us know when we get things wrong,"quipped Jameson.

The site's newest feature, unveiled in June, is an onlinestore featuring CNYRadio.com shirts, mugs, and mouse pads, links toapparel and merchandise for 15 area radio stations, and listings forover 100 radio-related books, CDs, and DVDs available at Amazon.com. Inall, over 250 products are available for purchase online from the CNYRadio Store.

Other features of the site include links to archived audio airchecks,"On the Air" -- a weekly radio-related comic strip penned by Jameson,and a "Picture of the Week" posted every Friday highlighting a recentheadline or a look back at a classic photo from the past.

Future plans for the site include the addition of in-depth featurearticles on timely radio-related topics, profiles of legendary icons ofSyracuse radio, and an expansion of station listings to include theIthaca and Watertown markets.

Site manager Scott Jameson, a full-time software engineer, has beeninvolved in Syracuse-area radio for 21 years and is a former WSEN FMnews director. Jameson has been a part-time air personality at Oldies92.1 since 1989.
