Sunny & Mix Go All-Christmas... and Y94 Too?

November 5, 2008 by CNYRadio.com

It's only a few days later than last year, but the "All-Christmas Music" battle has started in Syracuse.  Galaxy's Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) in Syracuse and Mix 102.5 (WUMX) in Utica have made the switch.  Correcting our earlier report, it appears Y94FM's all-Christmas programming is only available via webcast.

When this report was first filed early Wednesday evening, we assumed WYYY had also gone all-Christmas, because that's what we heard on their live web stream.  (Plus, the website is entirely red and green, complete with "Your Christmas Music Station" branding.)   However, when we finally had a chance to check the on-air signal with a real radio around 12:30 Thursday morning, we realized the Y94FM is actually doing regular music on-air, and the Christmas feed is only online.  (Adding to our confusion, Y94FM's all-Christmas stream replaces, rather than supplements, their regular webstream.)

Other options for listeners who enjoy AC, but aren't quite ready to have countless renditions of "Sleigh Ride" and "Silent Night" crammed down their throats this early in November:  Citadel's Lite Rock 105.9 (WLTI) in Syracuse and Regent's Lite 98.7 (WLZW) in Utica appear to be sticking with normal programming, as they have in the past.

As for Watertown and Ithaca -- they're a bit too far out of range for CNYRadio.com HQ.  Let us know if anyone in those markets is doing All-Christmas formats.
