Professor Quits Teaching to Take I-100 Afternoons

January 15, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

ITHACA/CORTLAND -- Almost two months since Saga Rocker I-100 (WIII) started the search for a new afternoon host, the station has chosen to promote weekender Paul Hansom to the job.  (And now they have a NEW job opening -- someone to fill Hansom's spot on weekends.)

Program Director Mark Vanness tells CNYRadio.com, "Paul has been working his tail off for me on the weekends and, after much discussion and persuasion, has agreed to quit his full time position as professor at Ithaca College and leap into the wonderful world of broadcasting!"  (We took a double-take when we first read that, but sure enough, Hansom's gone from the English Dept. faculty listing on IC's website.)

He describes Hansom as "fresh, foreign and a free thinker," adding, "we are very lucky that he was already in house and under our control."

Vanness says the station is now looking for "someone local (within driving distance of Ithaca)" to fill Hansom's old part-time weekend duties.  If you're within range and you've got good knowledge of the rock music format, catch Mark at mvanness@cyradiogroup.com or mail it here:
