No Balloonfest - But 93Q Still Has Concert Plans

April 27, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Citadel's 93Q (WNTQ) might not be taking part in Balloonfest this year, but they've still got plans for a major concert, with former American Idol finalist Elliot Yamin and four other national recording artists.

It's being billed as "Summer Jam on the Island," because it will be held at Baldwinsville's Paper Mill Island on Friday, June 5.  Along with Yamin, the lineup includes the bands 3OH!3, The White Tie Affair and SafetySuit, along with solo vocalist Jessie James.

There will be no admission charge to attend the Summer Jam.  "Just one catch," says another page on the 93Q website, "you have to win your way in."  Tickets will be given away in blocks of four, through contests on-air, online, and via texting.  The giveaways begin Thursday morning and continue right up until the day before the concert.

Updated 5/13 at 7:10pm - When this article was first published, Balloonfest had no musical entertainment listed on its website.  Today, a representative from Onondaga County Parks wrote to point out several acts have since been booked for the event -- including headliners The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Night Ranger and Orleans, in addition to a number of local performers.  Details are all posted at www.SyracuseBalloonfest.com.
