WRVO's "Foneless February" Underway

February 6, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

OSWEGO -- There won't be any pledge drive breaks during "Foneless February" at WRVO, but there could be pledge drives coming in March if the station doesn't reach its fundraising goals this month.  To give listeners an incentive to open their wallets, all pledges will be doubled by a third party, dollar for dollar.

For many years, the station has offered listeners the chance to avoid pledge drives in March by donating during "Foneless February."  Using a special secure online donation site, listeners can submit donations via credit card and specify whether they'd like any gifts (like tote bags, travel mugs, and the like) in exchange for their support.

The NPR affiliate says "a local family foundation" will match all donations made during Foneless February.  The station says listeners may even be able to triple their donations if their employers match employee contributions.

The WRVO website doesn't mention a specific goal, but in the past, the station would progressively shorten its March on-air fundraising efforts as Foneless February donations reached certain milestones.

WRVO is heard primarily on 89.9FM from Oswego.  Repeaters include 90.3 WRVD/Syracuse, 91.1 WRVN/Utica, 91.7 WRVJ/Watertown, 90.5 WSUC/Cortland (part-time), 90.1 WRCU-FM/Hamilton, and translator W214BR at 90.7FM in Geneva.

WRVO-Extra can be heard with HD Radio receivers on WRVO-HD2 and WRVD-HD2.  It can also be heard online at www.wrvo.fm.
