Vic Vetters Leaving WKTV for Providence

September 14, 2011 by CNYRadio.com

UTICA -- After 17 years in key leadership roles at NBC affiliate WKTV, Vic Vetters is moving on. According to one national industry news site, Vetters has been named to the General Manager post at NBC affiliate WJAR in Providence, Rhode Island. He officially starts the new job October 3.

News of Vetters' move was first reported last night by MediaBistro's TVSpy.

Local audiences know Vetters primarily as the anchor of NewsChannel 2 at Noon from 1994 to 2008, along with occasional fill-ins on the station's evening newscasts and even a few years of anchoring Election Night coverage. But Vetters also did plenty of work behind the scenes -- maintaining various management roles during the entire 17-year run.

When Vetters first joined the station in 1994, he also served as Director of News and Operations. Even after being promoted to National Sales Manager in 1998 and GM in 2001, Vetters continued to anchor newscasts on a regular basis until 2008, when Smith Media asked him to also serve as the GM for Burlington stations WFFF and WVNY.  The dual-market responsibilities required Vetters to give up anchoring, though he continued to appear on-air occasionally.

Prior to joining WKTV, Vetters worked at a number of other stations across the region, including WTEN Albany, WSTM Syracuse and WBRE Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA.
