Morning anchor Jenel Boston exits WKTV

December 27, 2013 by CNYRadio.com

UTICA -- Jenel Boston is no longer on staff with NewsChannel 2 (WKTV), station officials have confirmed for CNYTVNews.com.  Boston had been co-anchoring the NBC affiliate's morning newscasts for the past year and a half.

Station Manager/News Director Steve McMurray says Boston "has returned home to Baltimore to pursue other opportunities."  He added, "we thank her for her service to WKTV and our viewers and wish her the best in her future endeavors."  Jason Powles drops the "co-" from co-anchor, handling all the news on NewsChannel 2 at Daybreak (5am)  and NewsChannel 2 at Sunrise (6am), with meteorologist Bill Kardas on weather.

Our thanks to a CNYTVNews.com reader who wrote in after noticing Boston has been absent from both the newscasts and from the "talent bios" page of the WKTV website.  Boston joined WKTV in May 2012.  We're not sure of the exact date of her departure, but she hasn't posted anything on Twitter or Facebook since December 16, and we didn't see any posts or stories offering any kind of "farewell" to viewers.

WKTV owner Smith Media, LLC is currently awaiting FCC approval to sell the station to Heartland Media, LLC.
