SU Sports Inks Big Deal with SNY

September 15, 2010 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Statewide and regional coverage of Syracuse University Athletics will be expanding almost immediately thanks to a new deal the school has signed with SNY, the sports network that's already well-known for carriage of New York Mets baseball, Jets football, and the Big East Conference.

An announcement released by SU this afternoon says the new deal will bring television coverage of SU Athletics into as many as 14 million households subscribing to cable or satellite providers that carry SNY on their lineups.  That includes Time Warner, the lone cable TV provider throughout Central New York.

While certain SNY has carried certain SU games going back as early as 2006, the new deal adds more live games, replays of classic games, and the weekly Syracuse Sidelines show, with coaches Doug Marrone (football), Jim Boehim (basketball) and John Desko (lacrosse).  The Orange will also get increased exposure during SNY's nightly SportsNite wrap-up show.

The release says the combination of live games, replay classic games and other content will total about 350 hours of programming per year for the university's athletics program.

Time Warner Cable -- which has produced its own broadcasts of SU games going back to 1984 -- will remain involved.  The University says this Saturday's home football game against Maine will be carried by TWC Sports in Syracuse and other upstate markets, while SNY will provide the coverage in other areas.
