October 29, 2010 by CNYRadio.com

OSWEGO -- Nearly 7 months after John Krauss retired as GM of the WRVO stations, SUNY Oswego has named his replacement. Dr. Michael S. Ameigh, a longtime professor and assistant provost at the college, has been tapped to become the NPR affiliate's third GM since it debuted in 1969.

"I am delighted that Mike Ameigh has agreed to lead this gem of a station," said SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley in a press release issued by the college.

Dr. Ameigh is not a stranger to WRVO: Ameigh has taught courses in broadcast management and telecommunications since 1990. The college says many of WRVO's 16 staffers graduated from the college, and were students of Dr. Ameigh's at one time.

Four years after his arrival, Dr. Ameigh was appointed assistant provost for distance learning and information resources and director of the college's Learning Resources Center. In 2001, he became assistant provost for budget and operations, a job he'll keep on his plate part-time as he continues into his new position at WRVO.

Ameigh to lead WRVO as general manager

OSWEGO -- SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley has announced the appointment of Dr. Michael S. Ameigh to the position of general manager of WRVO FM, the regional public radio station based at the college.

"I am delighted that Mike Ameigh has agreed to lead this gem of a station," Stanley said. "WRVO is a showpiece for SUNY Oswego, a laboratory for some of our most talented communication students and one of the many ways our college substantively engages and enriches the Central Upstate New York community."

Ameigh currently serves as assistant provost for budget and operations at the college. He has an extensive background in broadcasting that includes radio station ownership and management, corporate and institutional media consulting and video production services.

A 50,000-watt HD radio station, WRVO broadcasts to Central and Northern New York from studios in SUNY Oswego's Penfield Library. The station distributes a full range of local news, public affairs and National Public Radio programming 24 hours a day, seven days a week from transmitters in Oswego, Watertown, Utica, Syracuse, Cortland, Geneva, Norwich and Hamilton, and via the Internet at http://www.wrvo.fm.

Ameigh has had an informal relationship with WRVO since he joined the SUNY Oswego communication studies faculty in 1990. His courses focus on broadcast management and telecommunications. Many of WRVO's 16 staff members are Oswego alumni and Ameigh's former students.

Ameigh earned a doctorate in public communication from the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. His nature documentaries are broadcast periodically on public television stations throughout Upstate New York.

After four years on Oswego's faculty, he was appointed the college's assistant provost for distance learning and information resources and director of the college's Learning Resources Center. In that capacity, he was a charter member of the SUNY Distance Learning Advisory Panel that laid the groundwork for the SUNY Learning Network, a system-wide course management system that now enrolls thousands of students in online courses each semester over the Internet.

He has been assistant provost for budget and operations at SUNY Oswego since 2001 and will continue to hold that position part time.

Before coming to Oswego, Ameigh was a professor and director of telecommunication at St. Bonaventure University. Previously he owned and operated commercial radio stations in New York and Pennsylvania.

He will be the third general manager of WRVO since its founding at SUNY Oswego in 1969, succeeding John Krauss, who retired last spring after a 41-year career at the station.
