SYRACUSE -- Organizers of the 5th Annual Bill Leaf Memorial Kickball Tournament announced some significant developments today. First up, they're now accepting team registrations online. Second, they've altered some of the old rules, in hopes of making it easier for both teams and individual players to participate.
PITTSBURGH -- Former WRVO and WSYR news staffer Maria Leaf was among an unknown number of cuts at the CBS Radio cluster in Pittsburgh on Friday. Leaf had been working at news/talker KDKA since 2007. Leaf's putting out the word that she's looking for her next opportunity.
SYRACUSE -- Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 25th: that's the date set for the 5th Annual Bill Leaf Memorial Kickball Tournament. The event raises money for broadcasting scholarships while remembering the Newsradio 570 WSYR broadcaster who was killed by a drunk driver in 2006.
Update 9/7/09 - We did not have enough people (specifically females) sign up to satisfy the minimum team size rules of the tournament, so we will not have a team. Thanks to the folks who did express an interest, and hopefully we'll be able to get a team together for next year. :-(
