WSYR-TV Takes Bridge Street to the Mall

November 18, 2010 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- For those of you who know your Syracuse television history, you might call this a "homecoming" of sorts.  ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) says weekday morning talk show Bridge Street will broadcast live from ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt every day "during the holiday season."

The channel 9 website doesn't specify the exact dates (the definition of "holiday season" seems to vary greatly from station to station, just like it does from store to store in the mall), but as of yesterday, they were still in their namesake studios on Bridge Street in East Syracuse.

When the live broadcasts begin, the station hopes to see fans and shoppers gather to be part of the live audience.  The hour-long gabfest airs live weekdays at 10am, and it's repeated on tape later in the day on digital subchannel 9.2.

When channel 9 first signed on the air in 1962, the studios were located in ShoppingTown Mall.  That's where the station lived (except during repairs following a 1967 fire) until it moved to its current studios in the 1980s.
