Galaxy Extends SU Sports Deal Through 2013

SYRACUSE — NewsChannel 9 is reporting that Galaxy Communications’ exclusive radio coverage deal to carry Syracuse University sports is being extended through 2013 — and the two sides are hoping to bring an NFL exhibition game to the Carrier Dome.

The partnership between the two sides doesn’t expire until next year, but both sides say they’re happy enough with the arrangement to renew it for another three years beyond.  Galaxy provides live coverage of SU football, basketball and lacrosse games.

In addition to the broadcast coverage, NewsChannel 9′s Steve Infanti reports Galaxy will continue to assist the University with special events including the Quad Walk and Midnight Madness.  But perhaps the most interesting item to come out of the announcement is the fact the two sides are working to get the NFL to play an exhibition game in Syracuse.

Levine told the TV station, “there have been initial conversations with several teams, just on a prelim basis… but I think sometime in the next three years, it is very, very realistic to have an NFL exhibition game in the Dome and I just think that would be fantastic.”

Galaxy broadcasts the games in Syracuse on TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV), and in Utica on The Game 1310/1350 (WTLB/WRNY).
