Sunny 102 and the Dome Ranger cheer SU hoops team

SYRACUSE — For the second time in a week, Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) morning man “Big Mike” Fiss has had the pleasure of debuting a new twist on a classic hit.  This time, he has teamed up with Dennis Brogan — or as he’s more popularly known among fans — The Dome Ranger.  In case you haven’t heard the new song on Sunny 102, we’ve got the audio here as well.

They’re calling this one “The Orange Went Down to Georgia,” which, as you’ve probably guessed, is based on the 1979 Charlie Daniels Band classic, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Earlier this week, Fiss and local musician George Day debuted an SU Final Four-themed remake of Billy Joel’s “A Matter of Trust.”

SU-themed songs have been popular on local radio stations over the last couple of weeks.  Previously, Fiss’ wake-up shift colleagues, Gomez and Dave from sister station TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV) and 96.9 WOUR released a song based on “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes.  And a few days earlier, Cumulus Media’s 105.9 The Rebel debuted “Cutting Down the Nets,” a custom song produced by The Bob & Tom Show.

The Orange face the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday night at 8:49pm (assuming the earlier Louisville/Wichita State game ends on-time).  And if the Orange win, they’ll face the winner of the earlier game for the national championship on Monday night.  Plenty of local broadcasters have traveled to Atlanta to cover all of the action.

Here’s where you can watch or listen:

  • Television: CBS 5 (WTVH).  Time Warner channel 855, Verizon FiOS channel 505.
  • Syracuse Radio: TK99/TK105 (WTKW/WTKV).
  • Utica-Rome Radio: 96.9 WOUR.
  • Cortland Radio: Oldies 101.5 (WXHC).
  • Ithaca Radio: ESPN Radio 1160 (WPIE).
