Call Sign updates follow "Holly-FM" launch

November 6, 2013 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- The early October launch of all-Christmas "Holly-FM" was accompanied by some call sign changes for a few local stations. There was some confusion earlier due to the federal government shutdown, but thanks to the FCC's monthly report of call sign changes nationwide, we can report the following:

  • WOLF Radio's WWLF 1340, which carries Radio Disney, is now WMBO, bringing a heritage set of calls back to Auburn.
  • Renard Communications has changed WVOA-FM Mexico to WNDR-FM.
  • Metro TV changes the WMBO-LP (channel 6) calls to WVOA-LP.
  • Renard's WTVU-LD, a CornerStone Television affiliate on channel 22, is now WTVU-CD.

Three of the above changes were part of the religious "Love Radio" move from 103.9 (formerly WVOA-FM, now WNDR-FM/Mexico) and 95.3 (translator W237AY/DeWitt) to WVOA-LP channel 6 (audio heard at 87.7FM), to make way for the all-Christmas "Holly-FM" as WNDR-FM, just a little over a month ago.

At least one reader commenting on the CNYRadio.com Facebook Page pointed out that the WNDR calls, formerly associated with a country station years ago, could be hinting to a post-Christmas flip to classic country. No confirmation or denial from WOLF Radio, though it seems plausible with the company already running a classic country station on 1300 WOSW/Fulton.

We'll be updating our list of Syracuse stations shortly to reflect these changes.
