SYRACUSE — Congratulations are in order for CNY Central Sports Director Niko Tamurian and Syracuse Woman Magazine Managing Editor Farah Jadran. Tamurian “popped the question” on stage during a packed charity fundraiser last week, and Jadran accepted his proposal.
SYRACUSE — Given the sudden popularity of the “Harlem Shake” — more than 93,000 videos on YouTube in less than a month — it was only a matter of time until a local television station got in on the action. And “first” bragging rights go to the crew at CNY Central. Adding to the flavor, several news anchors are joined by several local sports mascots.
SYRACUSE — When you see several TV stations airing the same thing at the same time, you know it’s a big deal. It doesn’t happen often. But last spring, several local stations turned their competition into cooperation. Together, they produced and simulcast “Protecting Our Children,” a one-hour special to raise awareness of child abuse. Almost a year later, the rare joint effort is getting new attention in the form of a New York Emmy Award nomination. And public broadcaster WCNY-TV has four additional nominations of its own.
SYRACUSE — Out with the deep reds and in with some brighter blues! Starting Monday, there will be a whole new look for local newscasts on CBS5 (WTVH). Earlier this week, WTVH anchor and managing editor Michael Benny shared a couple of “sneak peeks” of the new graphics and news set.
SYRACUSE — Plenty of accolades this week for longtime channel 3 (WSTM) news anchor Jackie Robinson, who retired in September. Tonight, she’s being honored in New York City as an inductee to the New York State Broadcasters’ Association Hall of Fame. Tomorrow, many will gather for a $75-per-ticket retirement celebration at the Oncenter in Syracuse. And on Friday, part of James Street near the CNY Central studios will be renamed “Jackie Robinson Way.”
Updated 10:20pm with video – SYRACUSE — Looking at the current slate of television news reporters and anchors in Syracuse, we can think of only a couple of people who can say they’ve been at the same station for 34 years. And tonight, that very select class is smaller by one, as Jackie Robinson retired from her decorated career with NBC 3 (WSTM).
SYRACUSE — As reported right here earlier this month, several local television stations will be putting aside competition for one hour tomorrow night, joining forces to raise awareness about child abuse in Central New York. Protecting Our Children will air in three different timeslots tomorrow night — the most-prominent being at 7:00pm, when six TV stations and three online streams will simulcast the special.
SYRACUSE — Subway spokesman Jared Fogel? He’s yesterday’s news. 93Q (WNTQ) morning co-host Ted Long has lost more than 100 pounds since September, and he’s going to show off the giant jeans he used to wear, tonight on CBS 5 News at 5:30.
