Yesterday, several folks who’ve been in local radio for 10+ years explained why they feel consolidation was “the” biggest story from the past decade. Despite the negative side of consolidation, most radio pros are optimistic for what’s ahead. Today, we share their predictions for the next ten years.

SYRACUSE — There will be a new radio home for minor league baseball’s Syracuse Chiefs this season: The Score 1260 (WSKO). The news was just announced this afternoon during On the Block with Brent Axe. Jason Benetti, who called the games last year, will return for his second season behind the mic.
SYRACUSE — Another locally-produced show has been added to the lineup at The Score 1260 (WSKO). The addition of Danny Parkins will give the Citadel station eight solid hours of local sports talk every weekday, starting on Tuesday. Updated 2:55pm with additional information from Citadel.
SYRACUSE — Play-by-play broadcasts of Syracuse Crunch hockey will have a new home starting this fall. The team has signed a deal with Citadel Broadcasting’s The Score 1260 (WSKO), ending a long-lasting partnership with Clear Channel’s Sportsradio 620 WHEN. 
SYRACUSE — The New ESPN Radio (WTLA/WSGO and 97.7/100.1FM) will soon come through on its promise to expand upon locally-originated programming. Disturbing the Peace will air during afternoon drive, starting Monday, May 17. The show will be co-hosted primarily by Chris McManus and Anthony Riccobono. 
SYRACUSE — A number of changes first announced in December finally took place today. ESPN Radio has changed its Syracuse affiliation over from Citadel’s WSKO (formerly WNSS) 1260 over to a four-station simulcast including two AMs and two FM translators owned by Galaxy.
SYRACUSE — We’re a bit late on this one, but much credit is due to Brent Axe, host of On the Block on The Score 1260 (WSKO), Syracuse University, WCNY, and others who helped put together the “Cuse Cares Telethon to raise $42,000 for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti on Friday.
SYRACUSE — Big news from the Citadel camp on James Street this afternoon: the station confirms WNSS will remain a sports-talker branded as “The Score 1260″ as of March 5th. Even more of a surprise: Lite Rock 105.9 will be flipped to an FM talk format, branded as “105.9 The Big Talker.” 
SYRACUSE — Online sports columnist and radio talk show host Brent Axe will be getting some national TV time this coming weekend, covering the historical outdoor AHL game at the State Fairgrounds. 
SYRACUSE — Less than a year after he was reinstated to morning drive — following a two-year absence in the market — syndicated talker Don Imus will once again be dropped from the lineup at WHEN. |
