OSWEGO — Student-operated 88.9 WNYO at SUNY Oswego has a “full lineup” of sports set for the upcoming academic year. Sports Director Scott Glickman tells CNYRadio.com the station will provide live coverage of Oswego High School home football games, followed by all SUNY Oswego Mens Basketball and Mens Hockey games. OSWEGO — If you’ve got a particularly favorite program on WRVO, you may need to adjust your listening habits. Later this month, the NPR affiliate will be launching a third program stream. The added capacity gives the station some new opportunities to group certain types of programming together, meaning some programs will be moving to new timeslots.
OSWEGO — The award-winning newsroom at the WRVO Stations is growing. The station welcomes “Innovation Trail” reporter Emma Jacobs, who held the same title at Binghamton’s WSKG. In addition, the NPR affiliate is employing several freelance reporters to increase coverage throughout the WRVO coverage area.
SYRACUSE — From the “better late than never” file, we’ve been remiss in mentioning the fact that award-winning radio news reporter Ellen Abbott has changed stations. Abbott has traded in her WSYR business cards for a new stack featuring the call letters of NPR affiliate WRVO.
SYRACUSE — Top journalists from Syracuse and surrounding markets gathered for the Syracuse Press Club’s 33rd annual Scholarship and Professional Recognition Awards Dinner last night at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. Public stations WRVO and WAER dominated the radio categories, while there were plenty of ties for winners in the television categories.
OSWEGO — The past six months have been rather interesting for WRVO. The NPR affiliate has a new GM, and the station has been watching from afar as lawmakers in Washington have threatened to cut funding for public broadcasting. Those issues are among the topics discussed within three “cover story” articles in a local business magazine.
OSWEGO — There won’t be any pledge drive breaks during “Foneless February” at WRVO, but there could be pledge drives coming in March if the station doesn’t reach its fundraising goals this month. To give listeners an incentive to open their wallets, all pledges will be doubled by a third party, dollar for dollar.
OSWEGO — It’s the biggest night of the year for virtually every newsroom in the country: Election Night. And WRVO is no exception. The station had “all hands on deck” to report the results, along with a few special guests providing analysis.
OSWEGO — Nearly 7 months after John Krauss retired as GM of the WRVO stations, SUNY Oswego has named his replacement. Dr. Michael S. Ameigh, a longtime professor and assistant provost at the college, has been tapped to become the NPR affiliate’s third GM since it debuted in 1969.
OSWEGO — Even though SUNY Oswego’s Communication Studies Alumni Reunion dinner didn’t start until 7pm last Saturday, many arrived on campus earlier in the day for a panel discussion, followed by a tour of the school’s recently-improved broadcasting facilities.
