SYRACUSE — Roughly three months after taking the helm of the WIBX 950 newsroom in Utica, Jules Thompson is trading in his News Director business cards for the chance to work closer to home. He’s headed back to Syracuse, to become the nightside assignment editor for ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV). [More »]

Updated 10:35pm UTICA/ROME — Oneida County Independence Party chairman and former radio host John Dote has reportedly pleaded guilty on charges that he stole nearly $60,000 in political donations to pay for personal expenses. As punishment, he’ll reportedly spend six months in jail and he’ll be forced to give up his involvement with politics. [More »]

ALBANY — Not many people have the honor of saying they were the General Manager of two prominent radio stations before turning 30, especially in a top-75 market. But Robert Ausfeld did just that, and after nearly four decades in radio, he’s set to retire at month’s end. Although Ausfeld was based in Albany, he oversaw one cluster of Utica-Rome stations for part of his career. [More »]

UTICA/ROME — Until now, the Buffalo Bills Radio Network has had a gap in coverage between Syracuse and Albany. That gap will be at least partially filled this season as Roser Communications Network’s 95.5FM (WUTQ/WADR/W238CA) becomes the network’s newest affiliate. [More »]

UTICA/ROME — We regret to report that Bill Heiderich, whose radio career at WIBX spanned more than 60 years, passed away on Saturday at the age of 89. Word of Heiderich’s passing first came in from CNYRadio.com readers over the weekend, and the news has been confirmed this morning. [More »]

CLEVELAND, OH — Former Utica/Rome sports talk host Adam “The Bull” Gerstenhaber is headed west. Most recently part of the weekend/fill-in roster at New York’s WFAN, Gerstenhaber has been tapped to help launch a brand new sports talk station in Cleveland. UTICA/ROME — After a few years away from radio, former Syracuse news anchor Jules Thompson will be returning to the airwaves later this month. He’s just been hired as News Director for Townsquare news/talker WIBX 950. And Thompson’s arrival will allow the current ND to move down the hall into a new role of his own. [More »]

BOLTON LANDING – As announced in April, WSYR-TV anchor team Rod Wood and Carrie Lazarus were inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame last night. But they weren’t the only Central New Yorkers taking awards home from the NYSBA’s annual Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting. [More »]
