SYRACUSE — It’s a busy week at Classic Hits Sunny 102.1 (WZUN). The Galaxy-owned station is the newest affiliate of syndicated host John Tesh, airing seven nights a week. And the station becomes at least the third in the market to roll out its own “Orange version” of a popular song, to help cheer on the SU men’s basketball team as they make their way through the NCAA tournament.
SYRACUSE — Every year, only 50 radio stations are selected as finalists for the National Association of Broadcasters’ Crystal Radio Awards. This year, Syracuse news/talker WSYR is one of just three stations in New York State to make the list.
SYRACUSE — As Mimi Griswold prepares to retire after 20 years with Galaxy Communications — starting as the program director for K-Rock in 1992, and serving as VP of Programming for the entire company since 1998 — the programmer received a very special honor today. Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney issued a proclamation declaring today to be “Mimi Griswold Day” throughout Onondaga County.
UTICA-ROME — Townsquare Media’s Lite 98.7 (WLZW) is the newest addition to the list of Central New York radio stations going all-Christmas. WLZW Brand Manager Eric Meier tells CNYRadio.com the adult contemporary station made the switch this morning. And the Syracuse-based Mars Hill Radio Network will soon begin mixing holiday hits in with its religious programming.
SYRACUSE — There are now two Syracuse radio stations offering holiday hits around the clock. Clear Channel adult contemporary station Y94 (WYYY) made the switch during morning drive today.
Updated 9:45pm to add link to Y94 poll – SYRACUSE — Less than a week after Sunny 102.1 (WZUN) made its annual switch to wall-to-wall Christmas music on November 1st, Utica-Rome sister station Mix 102.5 (WUMX) made the switch today, rebranding itself as “ChrisMix 102.5.” And in Syracuse, Clear Channel’s Y94 (WYYY) is giving listeners the chance to decide when it will hop on the holiday cheer bandwagon.
SYRACUSE — With the last part of October (before the hurricane, of course) bringing us a few mild days with temperatures in the mid 70s, it’s easy to forget winter is just around the corner. But, like clockwork, the arrival of November once again means the arrival of wall-to-wall Christmas music on at least one local radio station.
SYRACUSE — In what appears to be the next step in a potential local radio coup, Galaxy’s KROCK dismissed three on-air personalities today. Trusted sources tell CNYRadio.com that morning host Dex Mitchell, midday host / program director Nixon, and night host Candace Curby are no longer employed by Galaxy. The purge comes less than 48 hours after the morning co-hosts at Cumulus-owned competitor 95X (WAQX) suddenly walked off the job.
SYRACUSE — Citing some recent events in her personal life, Mimi Griswold announced plans to retire from her duties as Vice President of Programming for Syracuse-based radio operator Galaxy Communications at the end of this year. Griswold will continue to host Blue Moon Cafe, and she’ll serve as a programming consultant.
UTICA/ROME — For the past three years, Mix 102.5 (WUMX) has been programmed by people who already have other duties at Syracuse-based Galaxy Communications. Now, “it’s time for Mix to have its own PD,” says VP/Programming Mimi Griwsold. She’s taking applications for the job, which will include on-air shifts.
